Making the House a Home; Living Room Make Over Edition

With Christmas officially over and returning from our holiday travel, I was super eager to get started on a "major" project.  I've known since we moved in that I wanted to give the living room (my domain) a facelift, I even know exactly what I wanted to do, which is why the itch to get it done was so prominent.  Although the cream and brown walls weren't awful, it just wasn't my taste, nor was the white chair rail and wainscoting.

After quickly getting the Christmas decorations down and put away (I'm seriously talking record time here) we were off to Lowes for supplies!  I had already picked out the paint colors, mulled over them for a month or two, and definitely knew my choice was what I wanted--I was a women on a mission. We picked up two gallons of Valspar paint and primer in one, a must with the dark walls were were tackling   We selected Pitch Cobalt (a dark navy blue) for the accent wall and Polished Silver for the remainder of the walls.  (The paint sample photos do not do them justice!) After well wishes (sarcastically) from the staff in the paint department we were on our way to tackle the project.

I had also already snagged the new curtains for a steal from Target (http://www.target.com/p/-/A-50171944) at only $25 for the two panels, as well as the navy and white runner rug that I got for a mere 15 bucks from Big Lots!  I also picked up the beautiful brass reading lamp at a Value City Furniture going out of business sale for $13...it was 90% off!!!   (I should note, that with each renovation/project/facelift, etc., that I will be tackling, it will be on a tight budget, as I truly believe its 1. doable and 2. that I'd rather spend my money on traveling, experiences, etc.)

Geremy had never painted before (I know, I know) so after a quick lesson we were on our way!   4 hours later, the paint was dry and the room was put back together and I couldn't be happier!  I'm still trying to decide if I want a bigger rug (same print) as Brutus has a tough time getting traction on the floors, but other than that I don't want to change a thing!  (Ok, well the pillows on the couch, but I'm debating on mustard yellow or navy blue so until I decide I'm sticking with the old!)    I also am debating painting the buffet on the far wall, I'm thinking navy blue with gold detailing, but at the same time I kind of like its natural look---I guess I'll leave that for another project day.

What do you think of the changes?  Bold? Better? Fabulous?  Thoughts on the buffet make over?  I'd love to hear your thoughts, comments and opinions!

Now, what project can I come up with next?  I know there will be many.  Until next time Cloverwood.

And so Starts the Adventure....

We did it.  We took the plunge.  We've left the apartment/townhouse life and are now living in "grown -up" suburbia-- down the fence, its not white, or picket, but a fence all the same.  We have more bedrooms than we need, a garage that fits BOTH of our cars, Geremy has his man-cave, and Brutus has a yard that he can run around in for hours--although, if you know Brutus, you know he doesn't do the cold, so right now he hasn't been out there longer than 2-5 minutes at a time and of course with his sweater on! Oh, and kitchen that was big enough to cook the annual Rheinwald Christmas dinner without tripping over myself!

Although we knew we wanted to make a few
"improvements" to make it fit our (ok, my) style, we absolutely loved those house from the moment we first walked through it---it truly did "feel like home."

We moved in just after Thanksgiving, right before the Christmas holiday rush.  Bad timing, yes, but very happy to be in with time to enjoy Christmas.  Brutus had a hard adjustment, he misses his pal, Coby, so much, but he is finally starting to enjoy the space, and even SOME of his new four legged neighbors.

So far we have meet the most fabulous and wonderfully sweet neighbors we could have ever hopped for.  (Although, we did have some pretty fabulous neighbors before, its nice to know we didn't downgrade!)

So as we continue this adventure I'll be sharing our journey along the way; from celebrations to projects, there will always be something happening on Cloverwood Dr.
